Newseum Wedding: Reception Fun!

Earlier this week I showed you Mackenzie and Mike’s wedding ceremony celebrations, and today I am back with a feature on their wedding reception at the Newseum in Washington DC. We had a true dream team of wedding professionals who came together for this wedding day. The result was a beautiful day filled with the Grace Kelly class & glam that the couple was looking for.

After the intimate ring ceremony for the family, the majority of the guests began to arrive. The couple and their parents held a receiving line as the wedding guests made their way onto the Newseum Terrace where the wedding reception began with passed hors d’oeuvres and a variety of delicious mocktails.

I am getting ahead of myself, though. Before the wedding guests made it to the terrace of the Newseum, they were greeted with this custom wall, which was a great first impression when they stepped off the elevator onto the 7th floor. The Revolution Events wall features 9 frames, four of which featured flower bouquets by Holly Chapple, and six of the frames had the wedding guest escort cards pinned inside them. A Bellwether Events team member helped guests remove their card from the wall. The DIY escort cards were a labor of love by this bride’s super-crafty mother.

Revolution Events installed this gorgeous dance floor with the vinyl monogram that mimicked the detailing on the wedding invitations.

It is very common at a Newseum wedding for the couple to sit in this corner of the Newseum ballroom for dinner, since they will have the Capitol building as their backdrop. Mackenzie and Mike decided to also sit with their parents, and we brought in this mirrored gold table for the head table.

Fluffy Thoughts create this masterpiece of a wedding cake. It is, to this day, one of my most favorite cakes. The use of color as well as “white space” is so brilliant. And the “better together” cake topper will never go out of style in my book.

The spot where the ring ceremony took place was re-purposed to be the backdrop for a large dessert buffet that was served alongside the wedding cake.

We also re-purposed the escort card wall. Revolution Events installed two shelves onto the wall during the dinner, and we displayed the caramel apple party favors for wedding guests to take with them when they departed the Newseum.

We also used this touch point with the guests to give out the DIY ribbon wands that we used for the couple’s getaway at the end of the wedding reception.
